The dedication of the coaches and players along with a sound program has enabled the West baseball team to be very successful.  In the past 5 years as Head Baseball coach at West Lutheran we have compiled a 75-38 record.  We have also achieved two MCAA conference championships. During the past 3 years we have been recognized by the MN baseball coaches state rankings being as high as 3 and never lower than 19 (class 1A).  We have also had three all-state players selected during the past three years.

My main focus has been teaching and preaching fundamentals in pitching, fielding, hitting and base running.  They are listed in their order of importance to the baseball program.

The dedication of the coaches and players is unsurpassed.  The baseball captains lead practices that start in the middle of February (7-8 AM -- 3 days a week) with a pitching and hitting program that lasts 5 weeks.  This enables the players to be ready for the start of official MSHSL practice that typically starts the third Monday of March.

We also offer a summer baseball program for the players to continue to refine their skills. The Varsity season will usually last into June.  After that, West also has a summer team that plays in the highly competitive Gopher State "AAA" division of the 19U.  This enables the players to continue to compete against the highest level of competition and play as a team.

Questions regarding the West Lutheran Baseball program please contact me anytime.

Sincerely,

Marty Nelson

Spring Clean-Up

On a beautiful spring morning baseball players, parents, administration, and friends of West baseball assembled to clean-up and perform maintenance to the baseball field for the upcoming season. While some were busy raking, picking up trash, and painting others were doing field and mound repair, running a bobcat, and erecting our new batting cage.
Stop by and check out all the improvements while cheering on your baseball team at our next game. I hear the Student Council will again have field fare available at varsity games.
Again, thanks to all who helped with the clean-up. By the way the donuts were awesome!
