Megan Steffel Scores 1,000th Point

In one of the most dramatic moments in West Lutheran basketball history, senior forward Megan Steffel waited until the final seconds of her last home regular season game to score her 1,000 point. Coming into the February 23 game against the Mayer Lutheran Crusaders, the three-year starter and two-time captain had only 12 points left in becoming the 6th Warrior girl to make it to the 1,000-point milestone. With only seconds left and as the Warriors were leading the Crusaders 51-47, Megan had only scored 11 points. With West Lutheran gaining possession, the ball was inbounded to Megan and she was fouled with 18 seconds remaining in the game. As the student fans were holding signs displaying her 999th point, they erupted as the foul was called on Mayer Lutheran. With Mayer Lutheran in the double bonus, Megan had two chances of scoring her 1,000 point. Adding to the already charged atmosphere, Megan missed her first free throw. But as seen in many sports movies, she made her last free throw and celebrated her achievement with her family, coaches, teammates, and fans.

Congratualtions, Megan!
