Physics with Mr. Wiechmann
Ever wonder why ocean waves get bigger as they near the shore, how fun house mirrors and wave pools work, or why objects look distorted when they're submerged in water? Last week in Physics we used mega-slinkys in the gym to study some of the basic principles of wave behavior and became "online certified" geologists by triangulating the location of an earthquake using real data from some famous earthquake events of the past. This week we'll study wave reflection, refraction, and diffraction using 120 volt generators and water wave ripple tanks.
Honor Geometry with Mrs. Gieseke
The Honors Geometry class is concluding their chapter on surface area and volume with a project. Each group will design two containers to market a product of their choice that are equal in volume but different in geometric shape and surface area. They will present their designs to the “company CEO.” Included in their presentations must be a net (two dimensional drawing) of the containers, calculations showing the total surface area and volume, a cost comparison to produce their containers, and 3-D models of each.
PSEO Calculus with Mrs. Gieseke
PSEO Calculus is learning how the derivative of a function can be used to determine the maximum volume for a given surface area of material as well as the maximum profit and minimum cost for a company to produce and market their products.
