The senior class attended a showing of William Shakespeare’s “A Winter’s Tale” at the Guthrie Theater on February 8, 2011. The group attended a pre-play presentation in the Dowling Studio by actor Robert Berdahl and composer Adam Wernick on a behind the scenes understanding of theater.
The Wurtle Thrust Stage showcased a New Year’s Eve Party to set the mood of the 1950-1960s setting choice of director Jonathan Munby. From the Washington/Sicilia setting to the Midwest/Bohemia look, the Shakespearean language barrier melted away as the action told the story. This tragic-comedy showed the devastating effects of jealousy on the kings of Sicilia and Bohemia and their families bringing death, love, and redemption to the stage.
This event is about more than just a day away from the classroom for these students. For many it is their first professional theater experience. The goal is to instill a life-long enjoyment of theater. According to student responses, the day was a great success.
