Dear Parent,

Thank you for your interest in West Lutheran High School.

At West, we do our best to build on the foundation that is in place and to encourage growth both spiritually and socially. We offer a well-balanced academic, athletic, and fine arts curriculum.

West strives to help students make the most of their God-given academic gifts. The smaller size of the student body and small class sizes help teachers to recognize and work with various learning abilities. Additionally, West’s Learning Coordinator is often able to assist teachers in adapting instruction to the particular needs of students and may also provide additional tutoring.

Besides assisting with unique learning needs, the curriculum of West allows students more than a little preparation for college. Over 95% of our graduates go on to post secondary education. We offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses in US History and Literature and Honors courses in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry and Chemistry for students desiring the challenge of advanced academic work. Advanced science learning is also facilitated with Physiology and Physics classes and math learning is enhanced with Trigonometry and Calculus courses. We also offer three foreign languages: Spanish, Latin, and German.

Historically, West students have scored well on the ACT college entrance test. The last couple of years have shown considerable readiness. When reviewing the ACT benchmark scores, scores that show the potential for A and B level work at a college level, last year’s seniors had the following results:
  • Meeting the English benchmark: 97% compared to 78% statewide
  • Meeting the Mathematics benchmark: 79% compared to 56% statewide
  • Meeting the Reading benchmark: 74% compared to 62% statewide
  • Meeting the Science benchmark: 62% compared to 38% statewide.
Incidentally, Minnesota posted the highest scores last year compared to the other forty-nine states.

Because we are smaller than many schools, students who want to play a sport or be involved in an extra-curricular activity such as drama or music will have that opportunity. We have a wide variety of extra-curricular activities that we are able to offer (all without athletic fees and hidden costs).
