Fundamentals of Music:
Grade Level: 9
Course Credit: 0.6 Credits
Prerequisite(s): None
Description: Students are introduced to the art of singing and exposed to the many different ways they can express themselves through this art form. Sight-singing, ear training, and music theory are also taught. Students in this class are members of the Freshman Choir and perform at all school concerts. Attendance is a grade requirement.
Concert Band:
Grade Level: 9-12
Course Credit: One Credit
Prerequisite(s): Ability to play a band instrument or consent of instructor.
Description: Proper playing techniques and appreciation of music are taught in this performance oriented class. Members of this class are also part of the WLHS pep band. Attendance at all concert performances is a grade requirement.
Concert Choir:
Grade Level: 10-12
Course Credit: One Credit
Prerequisite(s): Fundamentals of Music or teacher consent.
Description: As students prepare literature for the purpose of performance in a concert setting, they study the elements of music, the art of musical expression, and proper choral techniques. Attendance at all performances is a grade requirement.
Fundamentals of Art:
Grade Level: 11-12 (offered even years)
Course Credit: One Credit
Prerequisite(s): None
Description: An appreciation of the historic elements of art are taught through the study of the art of past cultures and explored through student art composition.
Drawing and Painting:
Grade Level: 10-12 (offered odd years)
Course Credit: One Credit
Prerequisite(s): None
Description: Styles and techniques of various media are introduced through example and discussion and explored through projects.
